As a nature lover, do some views ever make you want to still time so that you can soak it in more?
A few kilometers from Ubon city in Khlong Chiam district is Pha Taem National Park. The park spans across an extensive bedrock with a lot of forest and vegetation cover. The park is famous for its rock paintings.
Standing at the cliff, you get a breathtaking view of the verdant valley below. Additionally, you see the wide Mekong river that is the border between Thailand and Laos.

The paintings are about 3000 years old. To see the art, you walk down the trail which is under the overhanging cliff. They are painted in red on the rock wall. Divided into four groups, they show different things such as people, animals, symbols, devices and hand figures. The second group of paintings is the longest.

The trail is about 4kms long.

Near the entrance to the park, there are the mushroom- like pillars, Sao Chaliang’. They tower high and one cannot fail to notice them.

Pha Taem National park is popularly known as a beautiful sunrise viewing spot. Though I did not get to witness that.
Not so far from the park in Pho Klang sub-district, is Soi Sawan Waterfall. The descent to see the waterfall is a steep one but once you get at the bottom, it is awe-inspiring.

This is an adventure that is highly encouraged during the rainy season which is June to October. During this time, the weather is cooler and the waterfall has more water.
